DC's Brickskeller - January 2003
By John Rosnow
Monday, March 14, 2003

Another trip was made to the Brickskeller in Washington DC. I was only able to make one visit this time, which was on Friday, January 17th, 2003. I arrived in DC around lunch time and went to the hotel to check in, then it was off to grab a beer and something to eat.

My first beer was Swale Whitstable Oyster Stout. It was from the Swale Brewery Company. It was very dark in color and had a smoky flavor. It had a low alcohol content, coming in at only 4.5%. It was very light in body and easy to drink. The 16.9 ounce bottle that I had was $9.25. Quite spendy for a beer, but where else are you going to find beers like this in the United States?

My second beer was Vieille Provision Saison Dupont Belgian Farmhouse Ale. It was a light gold/amber color ale. It was sweet at first, but then the bittering hops added a nice finish. Excellent Brussels lace in this ale. This beer was $7.25 for a 11.2 ounce bottle (hey, you only live once).

I was going to try the Unibroue cherry ale to see if it compared at all with the cherry ale from New Glarus but they were out.

That ended my excursion for the day, I figured I still had to make it through a meeting later that evening so I better take it light.
