I just realized I must have made a mistake counting weeks as this is the start of week 47 and I have been doing this since 17 January 2003. Oh well, I will keep the sequence for now.
The weather here has been nice this week, but we did have some rain too. Rain here = mud. I have not been out running for a while. I have used the gym instead.
My AKO account will take my old email list so I am back to using that. People said they had not received an update in a long time, but I have been sending them every week, usually on Sunday night.
I hope everyone has a good week.
Week 46
11 January 2004 - Good day today. I got out of bed about 1030 and went for a long run out to the North gate. It did not rain so much as to make it muddy. I was able to run off the side of the road. After my run, I took a shower and washed my PT uniform. I then came up to work and had some cheese, crackers, and sausage for lunch. I got all caught up on my SIPR email. After that I checked my NIPR email and then SFC C, Tom, Travis, and I went to dinner. I had steak, shrimp, lobster tail, and potato. The steak was over cooked and thin so I put some of Travis' BW3 Caribbean Jerk sauce on it. It added a lot of flavor. The lobster tail was pretty good tonight. It was firm, and not mushy. I do not think restaurants back home would approve of the way we eat lobster here though. It is kind of a finger food here. I am now back and work. I am having a cup of instant cappuccino that I got from Willie for Christmas. I am updating the journal and will send out the weekly email. I will also verify some things with my credit card statement and then read a magazine that I brought up to work. The tent life is not bad, but all I do is sleep there. I have not had the computer out in about 5 days.
12 January 2004 - Good day today. I did not get up until 1045. I was up until 0430 though. The Packers lost in overtime. I went to work for the meeting, then Tom and I went to pick up mail and go to lunch with Travis and Lee. I stopped and picked up my alterations. I ended up buying the patches so now I am done with it. I will ship those uniforms home in the next few days. It really got warm out this afternoon. I bet it went in the 70s. I got back up to work and got all caught up. We went to dinner and then walked back to get our snivel gear. I grabbed my gortex as it was starting to rain. Rain here equals mud. My boots felt about ten pounds heavier after walking less then a block, on the sidewalk. I got done with my work about 2330 and spent about 30 minutes reading through my RCI magazine that I got in the mail today. Maybe some more vacation ideas J . It is after 0030 here now and I think I will head back to the tent pretty soon. I am kind of tired and want to go work out in the morning if it is not too muddy.
13 January 2004 - It was storming last night when Tom and I went back to the tent. High winds, thunder, lightning and rain. I had my gortex parka, but the wind was blowing so my pants got soaked. I am certainly glad the tent did not leak, or blow over. I worked with my counterpart tonight for a little bit. I went to the 19th ASG redeployment meeting today. I heard this afternoon from Horace that we may go back 10 days later than expected so I let everyone at the meeting know about that. Doug will check into it. I hope that is not going to be the case. I seen a C-130 shoot four flares today as it flew overhead on approach. I heard the flares pop and then looked up and seen them. Kind of neat. It was sunny and windy this morning so things dried out on the sidewalk and streets pretty quick. We lost power in the tent a few times, but it was back on tonight when I stopped by. I am all done with the CG weekly update. It is now 0218 on the 14th. I am caught up on NIPR email, but not tired so I may read my magazine a bit before going back to the tent. I left a little after 0400.
14 January 2004 - I woke up about 0830 today and got out of bed and shaved and got ready for work. I then played Medal of Honor for a bit, then watched an episode of The Outer Limits. SFC C has a movie for me to watch, but I did not want to start it and not be able to finish before work. I will try and get out of work early tonight in time to watch it. I got to work at noon and had a cup of noodles for lunch and worked through the day. We had a duffle bag that was found by the bus stop so EOD (the bomb squad) came and checked it out. We had a meeting today where the BN Commander told us our unit, and others were chosen by the Chief of Staff of the Army to be extended for longer than 365 boots on the ground. We will not be extended though as our replacements are already here. I spent some time working the YTB today and I called TSP and have the form I need to withdraw my excess amount. I got a box from Arlene and Howard tonight. It had some home made cookies in it, almonds, and a beef stick. It is a little after 2200 now and I am going to take off and go and watch that movie from SFC C. I went back about 2230 and watched Gothika with Halle Berry. It was good. Then Tom came in and we watched an episode of The Outer Limits. I watched one more after he did and went to sleep about 0300.
15 January 2004 - I woke up about 0900 and rolled over a bit and the next thing I knew it was 1030 already. The guy next to me on the divider side kept slipping over to my side so I was really cramped last night. Oh well, it will not be long now. I got my boxes cleaned up and ready to send out. A mouse had gotten into one of my boxes and ate on a beef stick and some candy I had. I got my second envelope of magazines from Steve today. They were mailed priority mail on the 5th of December. The day is going by quick. I had lots of NIPR email to check and still not through all the SIPR yet. I had some cheddar cheese noodles for lunch with some Vienna Sausages, followed by a couple of cookies for desert. I better get back to work. It is now 0200 on the 16th. We had some more rain this afternoon. We got wet going to dinner. On the way back from dinner though, the sky was clear and I could see the stars. I worked on the YTB, YTG, and YTC this evening and just got done sending it to COL Swanson. (Yearly Training Guidance, Brief, and Calendar). I may read a little bit now before heading back to the tent. I do not feel like going back and digging out the computer tonight. I left about 0415. The truck to empty the portable toilets was stuck in the mud by the tents. There were chem. lights all over the place. It looks like it rained a lot more down in that part of the LSA. There were sandbags up and people had dug drainage ditches. There was standing water all over the ground.
16 January 2004 - It is now 2230. It has been a good day. I slept in again until 1030, then took a shower and got ready for work. Tom, Travis, and I went to lunch at the DFAC today. I stopped and got mail. I got a couple of letters and my RCI confirmation for June. The day went by quickly. I have finished the SITREP and am going to check NIPR email before going back to the tent. I think I will watch a movie tonight. There are still a few that I have not seen that I brought with me.
17 January 2004 - Well I did not watch a movie when I got back to the tent. I got back and went to sleep about midnight. I slept great until about 0400 when I had to get up and use the latrine. I got dressed in my PT uniform and went out and used the latrine. I was tempted to go to the gym and work out, but the shower point does not open until 0600 and I really did not think I would work out for an hour and a half. I laid back down and could not fall asleep. I was thinking of all the things I wanted to do when I got back home. Finally, about 0530 I drifted back to sleep, but was woke up several times with alarm clocks going off and people getting up. I got out of bed at 0800 and went to the gym. I did 10 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes on the elliptical machine. After that, I lifted a little weights, did some pushups and crunches, then went back and shaved and showered and got ready for work. Work has been good today. I worked on some redeployment items and did a little work with my replacement. I was supposed to attend a meeting tonight on the Class I distribution center in the North, but after waiting around for about an hour, it got pushed off until another day. Now I am finishing reviewing FRAGOs and will head back to the tent and watch a movie before going to sleep. I watched Intern. It was a pretty good movie about a young girl making it in the fashion world. After that, I watched some of the extras from Van Wilder. I went to sleep about 0300.
